Joe Rogan approves pitched vacant title fight if Alex Pereira moves up to heavyweight after UFC 320

Alex Pereira made his future plans very clear despite Dana White’s hesitancy.

In the main event of UFC 320, Pereira avenged his loss to Magomed Ankalaev in destructive fashion to reclaim the light heavyweight title.

It didn’t take long for the new champion to make it clear that he wants to revisit plans that he had before he lost the belt earlier this year.

While he isn’t interested in fighting the winner of the upcoming title fight, Pereira wants to move up to heavyweight.

This then opens up the question of what happens to the 205-pound gold, which Joe Rogan commented on in the immediate aftermath of the Octagon’s return to Las Vegas.

Joe Rogan supports pitch for Jiri Prochazka vs Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title

Dana White remained consistent when speaking about Alex Pereira’s hopes of moving up to heavyweight in the near future.

Pereira has only just become the third two-time champion in the history of the light heavyweight division, but the new titleholder has big plans in mind.

As White said in the post-fight press conference, he still believes that there are other fights for ‘Poatan’ at 205 pounds.

The UFC 320 commentary team spoke about what could be next for the division shortly after the main event had ended.

After Joe Rogan pitched a title eliminator between two contenders that recently earned big wins, Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg, Jon Anik suggested that it could even be for the vacant title if Pereira goes to heavyweight.

“Oh yeah, if ‘Poatan’ decides to go up,” Rogan replied.

Alex Pereira received a callout for a different UFC super fight after his emphatic win

While Alex Pereira has his sights set on becoming a three-weight UFC champion, he has potential opponents emerging from all angles.

Khamzat Chimaev currently holds the title that ‘Poatan’ first won back in 2022 before he made the decision to move up to light heavyweight.

After UFC 320, ‘Borz’ sent a simple message to the champion of the weight class above him.

“Congrats, now we need to finish our business.”

It seems very unlikely that the UFC would entertain this matchup, especially with the line of challengers that are awaiting Chimaev’s return.
