Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson already has a matchup in mind for next year’s event at the White House.
In recent months, ever since the announcement of the event, several UFC stars have expressed their interest in fighting at the White House.
There has been a lot of talk regarding whether Jon Jones can earn Dana White and the UFC’s trust in time to make his return on this one-of-a-kind showcase.
Thompson was originally hoping to get back out there before the end of the year, but this outlook appears to have changed in recent times.
With the White House already in mind, ‘Wonderboy’ has a name to go along with this ideal date and location.

Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson names Jorge Masvidal rematch as ideal clash at the White House
In a recent interview with Bloody Elbow, Stephen Thompson provided the latest update on when he hopes to step back inside the Octagon.
“I’m getting with my manager this week and we’re talking about which card do we want to get on. Do we want to go to Greenville? Does it make more sense to fight on the White House lawn? Because there’s going to be so many eyes on that card.”
‘Wonderboy’ added that he really wants to make the final fight on his current contract count by putting together something big.
With the White House being a potential target for his return, Thompson said that he’d seen a fan post about matchmaking this card, and he liked the idea that was put forward.
At UFC 217, Thompson defeated Jorge Masvidal, and he’s spoken about a potential rematch several times in the past.
“It was me versus Jorge Masvidal 2,” Thompson told Bloody Elbow. “So, Masvidal’s a big Trump advocate so I know he had shown some interest in fighting on the card and I know that he wanted to run our fight back after I beat him at Madison Square Garden. So, I think it would be a really cool fight card to be on.”
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson speaks on where he’s at with continuing to fight at 42 years old
Stephen Thompson is currently the oldest fighter on the UFC roster at 42 years old.
However, even after his loss in July, Dana White made it clear that Thompson isn’t going to be pushed towards retirement anytime soon.
‘Wonderboy’ told Bloody Elbow that despite being frustrated with the outcome of the fight, there were still positives that he took away from UFC Nashville.
“Just seeing the love of the fans and how much they enjoyed the fight, which is one of the main things I’m focused on out there, to be as exciting as possible. But, them saying that I actually won the fight really motivates me to keep going, even at 42 years old and being the oldest guy in the UFC.
“I would love to keep fighting and that’s one of the things that I really have to watch out for in my next fight. I really want to put on a show and I really want to keep going.”
