Fans claim the best division in the UFC’s ‘fall off needs to be studied’ after stunning stat raises concerns

Fight fans aren’t happy with a division that has already been reliably strong.

While the UFC’s current heavyweight division has been hit with criticism for some time, there are other weight classes that tend to maintain their positive reputations.

Though other divisions have been in the conversation from time to time, a lot of fans would agree that the UFC’s best weight class is lightweight.

155 pounds has hosted some of the greatest fighters, rivalries and matchups that the promotion has ever seen.

However, a recent statistic has led to fans reminiscing about the days of lightweight gone by.

Fans criticize the current landscape of the UFC lightweight division following inactivity

Rafael Fiziev’s withdrawal from his bout with Charles Oliveira has led to a stunning statistic about the current lightweight landscape.

The division is still home to some of the biggest stars in the sport, and some of the most exciting and beloved personalities.

However, for several different reasons, whether it’s Justin Gaethje’s frustrations or Max Holloway’s injury, some of the top names aren’t lined up for anything at this moment.

In fact, as pointed out by Home of Fight, following several recent lightweight bouts, there isn’t a single contender in the top 15 rankings that is currently booked.

The division certainly still has the potential to come back in a big way and produce some huge matchups, but as of right now, things are a bit stagnant, and fans have taken notice.

‘Lightweight division fall off needs to be studied.’

‘Went from the best to one of the worst in the promotion.’

‘A lot of good fighters but nobody wants to fight.’

‘A lot of good fighters but nobody wants to fight.’

‘Light number of fights division.’

‘Lightwait division.’

Lightweight activity compared to the UFC’s bantamweight division

There have been points in recent years where fans have argued that both the bantamweight and featherweight divisions could rival 155-pounds for being the best in the sport.

While there is a bantamweight title fight just around the corner, if we use this division as a comparison to lightweight, we can see whether 155 is an anomaly or not.

With 7 of 16 names booked for matchups that will take place in the near future, along with Sean O’Malley vs Song Yadong being rumoured, bantamweight is far more active right now.

Lightweight may still hold the most star power, but the top names simply aren’t fighting right now.
