Max Holloway reveals disappointing UFC return timeline as he suffers brutal injury setback

UFC fans may have to wait a little longer than they would’ve hoped for the return of BMF champion Max Holloway.

Just a few weeks ago, Max Holloway once again showcased why he is one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster when he dominated Dustin Poirier in the UFC 318 main event.

With his win in Louisiana, Holloway made UFC history, becoming the first fighter to successfully defend the BMF title, which was held by Jorge Masvidal and Justin Gaethje.

And following his impressive performance, ‘Blessed’ called for a rematch against the recently crowned lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, hoping that his history with the Spaniard could push him to the front of the queue.

Holloway provides return timeline as he reveals devastating injury

The lightweight division is going through somewhat of a title saga, with there being several contenders who believe they should be next to fight for the title.

Former interim champion Justin Gaethje believes he is the rightful contender and even claimed that he will retire from the sport if he isn’t given the next title shot.

Despite that, Arman Tsarukyan has been backed by many as the rightful number one contender, but his chances of fighting for the title seem slim considering Dana White’s stance on his recent career mishaps.

However, following UFC 318, Holloway seemed to be in as good a position as any and after the event he climbed into the top three of the 155lb rankings.

Unfortunately, though, the former UFC featherweight champion has provided a timeline update and revealed that he has suffered an injury setback.

“My right hand still hurts,” Holloway said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“If you have hopes of me fighting before the end of the year it’s probably not gonna happen. I’m seeing a specialist some time this week and I already met with my doctor and now I’ve got to meet a specialist but things are not looking up for me fighting one more time this year.

“What’s next, I couldn’t tell you, this stupid injury has pushed things back,” Holloway continued as he showed off an injured right hand.

UFC insider leaks Topuria vs Tsarukyan is next

With Holloway revealing the extent of his potential injury, that puts him out of the title conversation for now, which opens the door back up for Gaethje and Tsarukyan.

However, according to UFC insider Chael Sonnen, Topuria’s next fight has already been booked to take place in December against the Armenian.
