One of the fighters in action last weekend suffered a freak injury before being stopped.
There were some rare stoppages on the prelims of this year’s Noche UFC instalment in San Antonio on Saturday night.
While one fighter was stretchered out of the Octagon after being unable to continue following a horrific low blow, this wasn’t the only bout where an injury impacted the result.
The card suffered several setbacks ahead of fight night, leading to one matchup in the flyweight division undergoing a change.
Though his teammate, Diego Lopes, emerged victorious in the main event, it was a tough night at the office for one member of the roster.

Alessandro Costa reveals gruesome footage of the toe injury he suffered at Noche UFC
At Noche UFC, American flyweight Alden Coria received the call to make his Octagon debut in place of Edgar Chairez.
The new arrival put on a fine performance against Brazil’s Alessandro Costa, before stopping his opponent in the third round.
Coria was two rounds up on all three scorecards, but any chance that Costa had of turning the fight around encountered a huge hurdle in the second.

The five-fight UFC veteran appeared to have injured his foot at some point in the round.
While he made it to his feet to start the final round, this didn’t last too long, with Costa’s corner throwing in the towel less than a minute later.
A video posted by MMA Junkie’s Danny Sergura shows gruesome footage of the injury that the 29-year-old suffered after having his big toe caught in between the cage.
In case it wasn’t clear from the previous statement already, the video is not for the faint of heart.

Alessandro Costa isn’t the only fighter to suffer from a significant toe injury inside the Octagon
While they are incredibly rare, fighters have suffered injuries due to the Octagon itself in the past.
Gruesome toe injuries, like the one that Alessandro Costa suffered at Noche UFC, are also rare, though there is one famous example of this.
At UFC 159, Jon Jones came to a horrific realization when speaking to Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview.
‘Bones’ had just defeated Chael Sonnen in the first round to defend his light heavyweight title but if the fight had gone into the second round, it would’ve been stopped due to the injury that the champion hadn’t even noticed.
