There was one line that Floyd Mayweather Sr told Dana White not to cross.
White is set to promote the upcoming boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13.
The UFC president’s involvement in that match and his plan to announce his own full entry into the sport next year won’t mark his first prominent role in boxing promotion. White previously played a big part in putting together Conor McGregor’s ‘Money Fight’ against Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
After that successful event, the 50-0 boxing legend teased further collaboration with the UFC boss. His father saw no issue with that, providing White steered clear of one thing…

Floyd Mayweather Sr said he’d ‘whoop’ Dana White if he convinced ‘Money’ to fight in MMA
After Mayweather broke pay-per-view records with McGregor in a match billed as ‘The Biggest Fight In Combat Sports History’, he quickly announced his return to retirement. A few years later, though, talk of a return emerged.
And comeback speculation picked up in 2019, when Mayweather teased another collaboration with White after the pair were pictured sitting together at a basketball game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics at Staples Center.
Mayweather Sr soon reacted to his son’s plan to come out of retirement with the help of Dana White. He made it more than clear that the UFC boss would face his wrath if he convinced ‘Money’ to do one specific thing.
“What’s that thing called? It better not be MMA,” Mayweather Sr told Fight Hub TV. “I don’t think he’d take nothing like that because I’d go out there and whoop Dana’s ass.
“I will. I’d go back there and whoop the s—- out of him. Even though Floyd is a grown man, I’m gonna be the grown one to take over that.
“You know we usually talk, man, but I ain’t heard nothing from (Mayweather Jr),” he continued. “(The comeback) is a big surprise to me.”

Floyd Mayweather returned against Logan Paul
Nothing ultimately came to fruition regarding another collaboration between Mayweather and White — and, thankfully, nothing involving MMA for the sake of the UFC boss’ safety…
Instead, ‘Money’ announced his return in an exhibition contest with Logan Paul, marking the first of many post-pro career ventures that have divided opinion.
Since Mayweather and Paul’s non-scored bout, the 15-time world champion has gone on to share the ring with the likes of YouTuber Deji Olatunji, UK reality star Aaron Chalmers, Rizin MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura, and John Gotti III — the grandson and son of mafia members John Gotti and John A. Gotti, respectively.
Mayweather’s exhibition boxing contests have been widely criticized, with some even suggesting the decorated ex-pro is damaging his legacy by continuing to entertain such bouts at the age of 48.
