Wanderlei Silva’s opponent revealed to have suffered ‘internal bleeding’ after fight-ending headbutts

After a chaotic bout on Saturday night, both Wanderlei Silva and his opponent were hospitalized.

The major concerns were for Silva’s health after he was shockingly knocked out during a post-fight brawl inside the ring.

There has been a lot of talk over the past few days between the two parties involved in the ugly scenes regarding who instigated the brawl.

A health update regarding Silva’s current condition was posted by the Brazilian legend via his Instagram story.

However, it wasn’t just ‘The Axe Murderer’ who was in need of substantial medical attention after what went down at Spaten Fight Night 2 in Brazil.

Acelino Freitas’ scans revealed internal bleeding and a broken right hand

In a statement on social media, Acelino Freitas apologized for the chaotic brawl that ended his fight with Wanderlei Silva.

However, he also scolded his opponent’s conduct in the fight, with the MMA legend being disqualified in the fourth round for headbutting.

The opponent that Silva was originally set to face scolded ‘The Axe Murderer’ for taking this replacement bout with an experienced boxer in the first place.

Freitas may not have been knocked out after the fight, but he still suffered some substantial damage in the clash, as reported by MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz in a recent update.

Cruz wrote that Freitas’ medical exams revealed that while he didn’t suffer any fractures to his head, he did suffer from ‘internal bleeding’.

He also required surgery for a broken right hand, which will seemingly rule him out of his originally scheduled return for an exhibition boxing match on November 1.

Acelino Freitas’ son revealed why he attacked Wanderlei Silva

It was revealed in the aftermath of the brawl that the person who knocked Wanderlei Silva out inside the ring was Acelino Freitas’ son, Rafael.

Rafael has since deleted his social media profiles, though he did issue a statement to Brazilian outlet Globo to try and clear up why he attacked the MMA legend.

“When I realized a brawl had started, initiated by Wanderlei’s team, his son, his coach Andre Dida, and (Fabricio) Werdum…when I saw all of them assaulting my father and my brothers, I (acted) in legitimate defense.

“In the heat of the moment, I only thought about defending my family,” he added.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any legal action taken against Rafael Freitas.
