Eddie Hearn recently shared some insight from when he was Canelo Alvarez’s promoter.
The Mexican star suffered the third loss of his career on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
While there has been a lot of talk about what should be next for Terence Crawford following his stunning win, the same can be said for his opponent.
Alvarez has received criticism for his performance at Allegiant Stadium, where he appeared to be one step behind ‘Bud’ for the vast majority of the bout.
As his former promoter, Eddie Hearn was able to offer some insight into what the former undisputed super middleweight champion thought of this matchup years before it became a reality.

Eddie Hearn says Canelo Alvarez and his team knew fighting Terence Crawford was a ‘nightmare’ years before it happened
In a recent interview with The Ring, Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.
The promoter admitted that he was rooting for the defending champion ahead of September 13 having promoted some huge fights with him in the past.
Alvarez first signed to Matchroom Boxing in 2021, going on to fight the likes of Dmitry Bivol, Gennady Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders during this time.

Hearn revealed in the interview that he had his doubts about how this matchup against Crawford would suit his former fighter.
He also stated that Alvarez and his team had similar feelings on the bout when they initially spoke about facing Crawford several years ago.
“When I watched the Scull fight, I just, a certain style for Canelo is not good. When I talked about the Crawford fight with Canelo two years ago, he had no interest in that fight because he knew.
“Talk about Crawford’s IQ, Canelo’s IQ, [Eddy] Reynoso’s IQ, they know boxing. They knew that fight was a nightmare for them really. But, financially, obviously it was a huge opportunity.”

Eddie Hearn believes Canelo Alvarez is ‘nowhere near the fighter he once was’
In the immediate aftermath of the fight, Canelo Alvarez spoke openly about no longer being at his very best.
Eddie Hearn praised the superstar for this in his interview with The Ring, adding that he was surprised by how honest this statement from the fighter was.
Hearn also agreed with the sentiment that Alvarez’s best years are now quite far behind him.
“Canelo’s nowhere near the fighter he once was. I’m talking particularly maybe around Golovkin 1 and that kind of time… When you start saying, ‘My body just can’t do it anymore. It can’t.’ That’s a tell-tale sign that he knows that physically, he’s just not the same.”
