A MMA veteran who has recently crossed over into BKFC has had any plans for his return significantly delayed.
2025 is shaping up to be another big year for BKFC, with one of the promotion’s biggest cards coming up on October 4 in Newark, New Jersey.
Their roster has continued to add big names from MMA, with former UFC champion Frankie Edgar being the latest to try and test himself in the ring.
This isn’t a move that has panned out well for every big name that the promotion has brought in for a special attraction.
While BKFC may not have been the sport for Luke Rockhold, one MMA veteran has settled in well, though it doesn’t look like he’ll be competing again this year.

Bellator veteran Brennan Ward to undergo surgery after suffering a shock leg injury
For the majority of his career, Brennan Ward was a staple of the Bellator roster, having competed 19 times for the promotion.
The former middleweight title challenger then appeared twice in PFL in 2024 before he made the jump from MMA to BKFC like so many others have done.
After winning his BKFC debut in just 38 seconds earlier this year, Ward’s second appearance in the ring resulted in a loss due to a doctor stoppage.
‘Irish’ surely will have been motivated to get at least one more in later this year, but the opportunity to do so has likely been taken out of his hands.
Ward’s partner shared a photo on Instagram of him sitting in a hospital bed with a cast going all the way up his right leg.
He appears to still be in good spirits in the social media post following a freak injury that he could do nothing about.
“Welp. First date night in years was spent in the hospital,” Kay Coots wrote on her Instagram story. ” Steel beam landed on Bren’s leg. Shattered fibula and tibia. Surgery in the AM, thoughts and prayers for my guy please.”
Jeremy Stephens believes that BKFC is ahead of the UFC in one major area
BKFC has continued to exceed expectations regarding how big the promotion could become.
A big part of that has been the former MMA stars that they’re able to attract, including the likes of Jeremy Stephens.
In a recent interview with the promotion, Stephens said that he believes a key aspect that BKFC holds over the UFC is how violent it is, which promises fans more bang for their buck.
“UFC, you can kind of go around, wrestle a little bit, do a lot of different things.
“Bare Knuckle is the number one baddest blood combat sports thing right now,” Stephens said.
“That’s why we’re on pay-per-view. Two of the scariest dudes going at it head-to-head, toe-to-toe. It’s too hot for TV. It’s got to be PPV…”
