Jon Jones faced a long list of former champions and legends during his incredible career.
Sharing the Octagon with many fellow all-time greats is one of the reasons why his run is held in such high regard.
While Jones’ long-standing rivalry with Daniel Cormier has continued, there was one moment where it looked to be done and dusted.
UFC 214 took place on this day in 2017 where in the main event, Jones finished Cormier before the result was overturned.
His performance may no longer be as celebrated but at the time, ‘Bones’ was on top of the sport and he used his spotlight to call for what would’ve been one of the biggest fights in UFC history.

Brock Lesnar warned Jon Jones minutes after his UFC 214 callout
During his post-fight interview at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California, Jon Jones took a moment to thank Daniel Cormier before attempting to console his emotional rival.
‘Bones’ then retook control of the microphone to make one last point, calling out former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
“Brock Lesnar, if you want to know what it feels like to get your a– kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon.”
The WWE superstar had controversially returned to the Octagon at UFC 200 the previous year where he defeated Mark Hunt before the result was overturned to a no contest due to him testing positive for a banned substance.
Having already exchanged some comments during fight week for UFC 214, it took a matter of minutes for Lesnar to share his response to Jones.
Lesnar issued the light heavyweight champion a threat when speaking to Associated Press shortly after the main event had ended.
“Be careful what you wish for, young man.”

Dana White downplayed the excitement surrounding a potential fight between Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar
Speaking at the post-fight press conference following UFC 214, Dana White was asked about Jon Jones’ callout of Brock Lesnar and whether the matchup could happen.
He revealed that Lesnar had already responded via the aforementioned Associated Press interview, but downplayed any excitement surrounding it due to the kind of timeframe that the fight would have.
“I don’t know… Listen, Lesnar would take six months for him to even go through USADA to fight. So, it’s fun to talk about but the reality of it happening anytime soon is not a reality.”
Lesnar later made an appearance at UFC 226 where he shared a heated moment inside the Octagon with Daniel Cormier, though nothing ever came of this and the former champion hasn’t competed since UFC 200.
