Jon Jones was stripped of UFC belt after knocking out bitter rival in career-best win wiped from his record

Jon Jones came crashing back down to Earth with a bang after the biggest win of his career.

The current heavyweight champion shares one of the most bitter rivalries in UFC history with Daniel Cormier, whom he brawled at a press conference before winning their first fight by decision in January 2015.

Two years and a bunch of controversies later, ‘DC’ had the light heavyweight title ahead of their rematch.

Jon Jones won back his belt with a brutal knockout win over his biggest rival at UFC 214 in July 2017.

Jon Jones lost his title after biggest UFC win

Two months after his career-best win, Jon Jones was stripped of the 205lb UFC title for a third time.

The greatest fighter in MMA history received a 15-month ban for testing positive for an anabolic steroid, turinabol, during a pre-fight drug test.

As a result of the drug ban, Jones saw his famous victory over Cormier changed to a no-contest.

The light heavyweight belt was given back to Cormier, who defended it by beating Volkan Oezdemir before moving up a division, becoming a dual-weight champion, and spending the rest of his Hall of Fame career competing at heavyweight.

As for Jones, he served his suspension and won back his belt by knocking out Alexander Gustafsson.

After three defenses and a massive layoff, Jones stepped up to heavyweight and won a second title.

Jones hasn’t fought since knocking out Stipe Miocic to defend his heavyweight strap at UFC 309 in November 2024.

What’s next for Jon Jones?

Jon Jones could be on the verge of being stripped of his UFC championship again.

Interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall is currently waiting for a crack at ‘Bones’.

UFC CEO Dana White has ‘100 percent’ guaranteed the two men will fight later this year.

Jones’ apparent hesitation to take the matchup with Aspinall has led to calls for him to be stripped.

The 37-year-old insists that’s not something he’s worried about in his latest update on the Aspinall fight.

On Monday, Jones tweeted about eating well and losing weight during his time in Southeast Asia.

A fan replied: “Enjoying your last days as champ before being stripped I see eh Jon?”

Jones hit back: “Stripped? Lol, do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?”
