Chael Sonnen hilariously takes blames for Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall saga 12 years after he ‘beat’ the GOAT

Chael Sonnen remembers his fight with Jon Jones a bit differently from everybody else.

Most people saw Jon Jones batter ‘The American Gangster’ during a first-round TKO win at UFC 159 in April 2013.

‘Bones’ almost fainted after realizing he’d suffered a horrific toe injury during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

It was always assumed that the former light-heavyweight and current heavyweight UFC champion had broken his toe while beating up Chael Sonnen, but the man himself has now hilariously insisted he caused the injury and ‘beat’ the greatest fighter in MMA history.

Chael Sonnen blames himself for latest Jon Jones saga

Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier were asked to trash-talk each other during a recent joint interview.

Naturally, ‘The Bad Guy’ immediately began mocking Cormier for losing twice against Jones.

Sonnen playfully misremembered his own experience with the man who is currently doing everything he can to avoid a fight with interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall.

The UFC legend even speculated that the injury he caused Jones may be what’s holding up that fight.

“He lost to Jon Jones. Even if Jon was cheating, he lost,” Sonnen told ‘The Broadcast Boys’.

“I ripped Jon’s toe off. I ripped it off and I threw it into the second row.

“I’m the lineal champion to this day, and that includes over ‘DC’.

“The entire reason Jon Jones won’t sign to fight Aspinall is because he’s limping around from the foot that I gave him.

“I beat Jon and you did not.”

Cormier refused to respond as he didn’t want to trash-talk with one of the best to ever do it.

“I can’t trash talk with this dude,” the UFC Hall of Famer said when asked if he had a rebuttal.

“He’s one of the greatest trash talkers in the history of the game.”

What’s really holding up Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall?

Last week, Jon Jones used a former opponent to explain why he doesn’t want to fight Tom Aspinall

It’s become very clear that Jones is the person holding up the biggest matchup of 2025.

The 37-year-old American has been talking up a fight between him and Francis Ngannou instead.

Dana White shut down Jones vs Ngannou as he insisted Aspinall is the man to beat after UFC 316.

Still, the UFC CEO continues to back Jones, even though almost 200,000 people have signed a petition calling for him to be stripped of his heavyweight belt.

“Yeah,” White said when asked if he’d seen the viral petition on Saturday night.

“Every human on Earth was DM’ing it to me.

“How many fans are there worldwide now, what’s the number?

“Like 400 million and 130,000 people want to see him stripped.

“It’s kind of f—— silly.”

It appears Jones will be given more time to weigh up if he wants to fight Aspinall or retire from MMA.
