UFC 159 results: Champion Jon Jones suffers grisly toe break in easy win over Chael Sonnen

UFC champ Jon Jones hardly looked to break a sweat in his one round demolition of big talking Middleweight Chael Sonnen but as we discovered immediately after the fight, the champ broke his left big toe in grisly fashion.

If Sonnen had been able to hang on for another 0:27 there is every reason to believe he would have won the title via TKO when the ref saw Jones’ toe and stopped the fight.

The champion will now be out of commission until the injury heals as deserving Light Heavyweights like Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira and Phil Davis twist in the wind waiting for their shot.

Here’s another screen cap:

Here’s how BE’s Chris Hall described the action:

As expected Chael came out looking very aggressive, but gave up an early takedown for his efforts. He scrambled back to his feet and they wrapped up in the clinch. Chael really looked to grab the guillotine from the clinch, but Jones was unfazed. Jones hooked his arms behind Chael’s legs and lifted him for a big takedown. Chael did his best to work off his back, but found himself defending absolutely brutal ground and pound from the champ.
