‘2 eyes, 1 nose’… Listen to Brandon Moreno and referee Marc Goddard’s comical mid-fight chat at UFC Edmonton

A routine eye check by referee Marc Goddard turned into a hilarious moment with former UFC champ Brandon Moreno at UFC Edmonton.

Brandon Moreno stopped Amir Albazi’s lengthy winning streak with an impressive performance at UFC Edmonton on Saturday. He returned to the win column following back-to-back main event losses, including in Mexico City earlier this year.

Moreno has risen into a UFC star after multiple flyweight title reigns. He’s a colorful personality in and out of the Octagon, as evidenced by some of his unique hobbies outside of fighting.

After an accidental eye poke by Albazi during the UFC Edmonton headliner, referee Marc Goddard took control and asked if Moreno could continue fighting. In true Moreno fashion, he responded in a way that drew a chuckle from UFC analysts Daniel Cormier and Paul Felder on the broadcast.

After Goddard asked if Moreno could see, the former UFC champion responded “Yes, sir. Two eyes, one nose”. Initially confused by Moreno’s response, Goddard appeared to say “Yeah, got a bad nose!” or something of the sort.

Goddard then asked again if he could continue fighting, to which Moreno emphatically assured the longtime referee he was in good standing. Moreno went on to win the fight by unanimous decision, a lopsided nod on all three judges’ scorecards.

The conversation between Moreno and Goddard quickly made waves on social media after UFC Edmonton.

Brandon Moreno inches closer to a title shot with Amir Albazi win

Moreno left the UFC Octagon relatively unscathed against Albazi after one of the best performances of his career. He could potentially be slated into a No. 1 contender fight for his next UFC assignment as he moves closer to a possible rematch with Alexandre Pantoja.

Before UFC Edmonton, Moreno lost to former title challenger Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico City in February. He lost the UFC flyweight title by split decision to Pantoja at UFC 290 last year.

Moreno, one of the top combat sports stars in Mexico, is looking to regain the form that saw him win his championship tetralogy over Deiveson Figueiredo. After fighting to a majority draw against Figueiredo at UFC 256, Moreno went on to win two of the next three fights between the two rivals.

Following two previous losses to Pantoja, Moreno is firmly back into the UFC flyweight title picture after UFC Edmonton. As he awaits his next UFC booking, Moreno remains one of the hottest topics of the resurgent UFC flyweight division.
