The Show Money crew is Paul the economist, Jason the lawyer, and John the man who knows everyone and everything in MMA. Today’s episode is dedicated to the newly announced Professional Fighters Association (PFA), helmed by baseball agent Jeff Borris and former Nick Diaz attorney Lucas Middlebrook, whose stated goal is to unionize UFC athletes.
Did the PFA get off to a good start? How does it differ from the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association (MMAFA)? Which would help fighters more? What key hurdles will the PFA have to clear and what should we expect from the unionization process with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and possibly the appellate courts?
One thing we forgot to mention is that none of us thinks PFA unionization would get the split of UFC revenues close to 50/50 anytime soon, but it would surely be a start at improving fighter bargaining power.
