Floyd Mayweather defended in GOAT debate as icon picks him over Terence Crawford for one big reason

Floyd Mayweather has received defense from a rather unlikely source when it comes to the debate regarding who is better between him and Terence Crawford.

Seeing his name cast onto the back pages earlier this month, Floyd Mayweather was immediately mentioned in the same circles as the unbeaten Terence Crawford, following the latter’s undisputed super middleweight championship win.

And now just eight fights out from Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 record, Crawford turned in a dominant performance over common opponent Canelo Alvarez.

However, quite an unlikely source has leapt to the defense of Mayweather when it comes to the debate between him and Crawford.

Oscar De La Hoya reveals why he picks Floyd Mayweather over Terence Crawford

Sharing the ring with the unbeaten Mayweather all the way back in 2007, veteran former world champion Oscar De La Hoya is all too familiar with the boxing credentials and abilities of the Michigan star.

And suffering a competitive decision loss to Mayweather in the pair’s blockbuster super fight, De La Hoya has laid out one key reason why he sides with the former when it comes to recent discourse between him and Crawford.

“Floyd Mayweather literally toyed with Canelo Alvarez,” De La Hoya told FightHype. “Like, he literally toyed with him. He didn’t get hit at all. Not one time.

“And, (Terence) Crawford — yeah, he’s more of a boxer-fighter,” De La Hoya explained. “Mayweather is more of a boxer. But I have to disagree. I think that Mayweather is much more (sic) superior to Crawford. Not just because he beat me, it was a close fight or whatever.

“…I really feel that technically, Mayweather is the better fighter.”

Floyd Mayweather profited from Terence Crawford’s win over Canelo Alvarez

With a keen eye on proceedings between Crawford and Canelo earlier this month in Las Vegas, Mayweather made a late pick for the championship super fight.

And calling an upset victory correctly, Mayweather collected just shy of $125,000 for his late prediction, with Crawford running out the victor in a lopsided display.

Making his own return to the ring next year, Mayweather will clash with iconic heavyweight star Mike Tyson as soon as this spring in an exhibition pairing.
