Conor McGregor knows a thing or two about trilogies.
The Irish UFC superstar witnessed history in the UFC 320 headliner as Alex Pereira reclaimed his light heavyweight title from champion and rival Magomed Ankalaev on Saturday night.
Ankalaev won his first fight against Pereira at UFC 313 back in March, outlanding the former kickboxing champion on the feet across five rounds for a unanimous decision victory.
The rematch couldn’t have been more different at UFC 320.
Pereira poured on the pressure early into round 1, taking out Ankalaev with ground and pound strikes after rocking his equilibrium with a punch.
McGregor sent a message to both light heavyweights following the result, insinuating their rivalry may not be over.

‘1-1 now’… Conor McGregor reacts to Alex Pereira beating Magomed Ankalaev
Conor McGregor congratulated both Pereira and Ankalaev post-fight.
“Congrats Pereira on recovering the rematch,” McGregor wrote on X on Sunday.
“Skill. Will. Determination,” McGregor added.
McGregor continued.
“Congrats Ankalaev on having the courage to rematch.
“Guts. Balls. Honour.
“1-1 now @ufc,” McGregor said of Pereira and Ankalaev being all tied up in their series.
It was McGregor who emphasized that he and Dustin Poirier were 1-1 after his rematch didn’t go his way at UFC 257, insisting for a trilogy, which took place months later at UFC 264.
Poirier defeated McGregor in their trilogy bout after McGregor broke his leg, winning their series with a 2-1 lead.
Time will tell if Ankalaev gets an immediate rematch with Pereira.
There’s a decent possibility Pereira fights either Carlos Ulberg or Jiri Prochazka next, who are both coming off emphatic knockout wins.
Conor McGregor said he’s super motivated following UFC main event
Minutes after Pereira’s inspiring title win over Ankalaev, McGregor took to X.
“I am motivated beyond belief,” McGregor said.
“Now discipline,” McGregor added.
McGregor has previously claimed he’s signed on to fight Michael Chandler at UFC White House in June, but UFC CEO Dana White recently confirmed his return isn’t official quite yet.
McGregor, 37, has not fought in four years.
