Dustin Poirier hilariously replies to Nate Diaz as UFC star pitches ‘the hardest fight’ of their careers

Dustin Poirier hasn’t given up on the idea of going head-to-head with Nate Diaz.

Just months ago, the former UFC interim lightweight champion laid down the gloves in the Octagon after losing his retirement fight to Max Holloway in the UFC 318 main event.

While Poirier might be done with MMA, the 36-year-old recently said the only fight he’d come back for is a boxing match against longtime rival Nate Diaz—especially now, with UFC CEO Dana White helming Zuffa Boxing.

Diaz and Poirier were scheduled to fight in the UFC back in 2018, but Poirier withdrew due to injury.

Diaz answered Poirier’s latest call-out by saying he’d ‘beat his a–‘, adding the retired fighter wasn’t allowed to box as he’s still under UFC contract.

Poirier was quick to correct Diaz in his response.

Dustin Poirier suggests spelling bee between him and Nate Diaz

Poirier, a high school dropout, took a jab at Diaz misspelling the word ‘allowed’ as ‘aloud’ in his initial post.

“Dog I have a 8th grade education.. allowed*,” Poirier responded to Diaz on X.

After realizing he made a grammar error in his post (he wrote ‘a’ instead of ‘an’), Poirier suggested a totally different competition for him and Diaz.

“Maybe a spelling bee competition vs Nathaniel would be the hardest fight of both of our careers,” Poirier joked.

Poirier and Diaz have only faced off once before and that was during the UFC’s 25th anniversary press conference in Aug. 2018.

Dustin Poirier said Nate Diaz was the one fight that got away

Poirier fought a murderer’s row in the UFC lightweight division.

‘The Diamond’ shared the Octagon with the likes of Conor McGregor (x3), Khabib Nurmagomedov, Max Holloway (x2), Justin Gaethje (x2), Islam Makhachev and many more great fighters in his heyday.

Poirier wishes he could have fought Nate Diaz before his career was all said and done.

“We not even going anywhere but someone asked me,” Poirier said of calling out Diaz to a boxing match.

“I’m retired, I’m done but Nate is one that got away,” Poirier added on X.
