In one of his most stellar performances in the ring, lightweight kingpin Gervonta Davis went one better than his long-time rival Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Forever linked with an eventual super fight with former world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko during the Olympic hero’s gleaming career in the sport, current WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis failed to ever face the Ukrainian.
As recent as last year, in fact, Davis was tied to a showdown with Lomachenko in an undisputed lightweight title pairing — ultimately failing to come to fruition amid a lack of interest from the latter.
However, when paired with a certain common foe, Davis would prevail in more impressive fashion than Lomachenko — who struggled quite badly.

Gervonta Davis’ title win over Jose Pedraza
A year before sharing the ring with Puerto Rico star Jose Pedraza in his pursuit of the WBO lightweight crown, Lomachenko was beaten out performance-wise by Davis against the same opposition.
Winning his first championship in the sport, Davis — then under the umbrella of long-time mentor Floyd Mayweather, scooped the IBF super featherweight crown against Pedraza.
Kicking off an active 2017 inside the ring, Davis would cement his status as top super featherweight star with a seventh round knockout win over Pedraza.
Winning world championship gold at just 22-years-old, Davis would watch on as Lomachenko welcomed the pursuit of Pedraza in a lightweight move just a year later.
Himself forced to the twelfth and final round against the title challenger, Lomachenko rode out a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Pedraza — who had almost crushed him with a barrage of body shots late in their lightweight title offing.
Commenting on the tough opponent facing him, Lomachenko admitted Pedraza was too slick and skilful during the bout, limiting his chances of lining up a knockout stoppage.
Gervonta Davis defended against ‘bully’ Jake Paul ahead of clash
Coming under fire himself ahead of his return to the ring next month, Davis has put his lightweight aspirations on the line to secure a lucrative exhibition fight with Jake Paul.
And with a sizable 65lbs weight difference between the duo, Davis has hit the headlines due to the size discrepancy between himself and the outspoken Ohio puncher.
Furthermore, Paul has been ripped vocally by a host of boxing pundits and fans in the build up to the mismatch, with one former world champion branding him as a “bully”.
