Terence Crawford reveals he ruined super fight for Canelo Alvarez with this sensational knockout win

Spoiling the show for Canelo Alvarez just weeks ago, Terence Crawford also upset the apple cart in a failed fight for the Mexican not so long ago.

Scoring a wholly lopsided decision win over Canelo Alvarez, unbeaten favorite Terence Crawford added another undisputed crown to his mantle, in the form of the super middleweight gold.

And having scooped the undisputed welterweight crown just two years ago, Crawford has been backed to even compete with great success as high as the light heavyweight limit.

However, in a stark revelation from the Omaha star, Crawford revealed his super welterweight title success ruined another super fight outing for Mexican star Canelo.

Terence Crawford reveals Errol Spence Jr. knockout ruined Canelo Alvarez clash

Turning on one of the most heralded performances in recent boxing history, Crawford handed Long Island star Errol Spence Jr. his first professional loss in a sensational stoppage.

Dropping the defending WBA, WBC, IBF and The Ring welterweight champion with an eventual ninth-round knockout win atop a blockbuster card in ‘Sin City’, Crawford landed the undisputed gold in the division.

However, according to the pound-for-pound pacesetter, if Spence Jr. had beaten him that night two years ago, he was slated to meet with Canelo in his own megafight — a clash which he spoiled as a result.

“(Errol) Spence (Jr.) was basically contracted to fight Canelo (Alvarez) if he would have beat me — at 164 [pounds],” Crawford said on All The Smoke Fight. “And, you know, I was like, ‘Damn. Since I beat him (Spence Jr.), I should get the opportunity [to fight Canelo].”

Terence Crawford’s own failed super fight

And despite forcing a pivot from Canelo vs. Spence Jr., Crawford can count himself unfortunate to miss out on another iconic pairing in his illustrious career.

Gearing up for his own return to the ring as soon as December, the fan-favorite boxing megastar Manny Pacquiao was once linked heavily to a showdown with both Spence Jr. and then Crawford.

Back in 2015, off the back of his win over Dierry Jean, Crawford was in line to take on Pacquiao in a showcase matchup at 140lbs, before claiming the Filipino star was “nowhere to be found”.
