In his bid to reclaim world championship gold, a former associate of Canelo Alvarez has urged him to make wholesale changes.
Set to enter the ring in his return without a title in tow for the first time in seven years, Mexican favorite Canelo Alvarez saw his reign as undisputed super middleweight champion come to a crashing end last month.
And yet to book a comeback to boxing following his lopsided loss to the unbeaten Terence Crawford, Canelo has been linked with a whole host of potential matchups next.
Whether he makes a rare trip to the UK or competes in his North American residency, Canelo has been backed to make a drastic change to his camp by a vocal former business partner.

Oscar De La Hoya urges Canelo Alvarez to sack head coach
A vocal critic of Canelo since their infamous Golden Boy Promotions split, former world champion Oscar De La Hoya is the latest to weigh in on the future of the Jalisco megastar.
Heaping praise on Crawford off the back of his win over Canelo, Olympic star De La Hoya has boldly laid out a route to championship gold for Canelo if he does return to boxing — beginning with the sacking of his long-time head coach.
“He (Canelo Alvarez) still has a chance to fight several more fights with the titles [on the line],” De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV.
“But he needs a new trainer,” De La Hoya continued.
The trainer in question is veteran head coach, Eddy Reynoso — who has trained Canelo since the age of 15, and has been a lynchpin in the Mexican’s historic championship success throughout his boxing career.
Oscar De La Hoya promoted Canelo Alvarez’s biggest fight
Since his retirement from the ring, De La Hoya has successfully turned his hand to promotion, heading up Golden Boy Promotions.
And promoting several high-profile fights for the Jalisco megastar during his illustrious career, De La Hoya was front and center ahead of Canelo’s memorable title showdown with common opponent Floyd Mayweather back in 2013.
