Dustin Poirier is already getting itchy knuckles just months after his official UFC retirement.
Earlier this year at UFC 318, former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier made his final walk to the Octagon when he took on Max Holloway for the BMF title in the promotion’s return to Louisiana.
Unfortunately for ‘The Diamond’, he wasn’t able to walk off into the sunset with a win after Holloway dominated him over five rounds to retain his title.
Despite his retirement, Poirier has admitted several times since that he is still ‘battling’ himself and is always going back-and-forth on his decision.

Dustin Poirier makes callout for a return to fighting
The Louisiana native also admitted that once he retired from competition, he may begin experimenting with steroids, similar to the way Donald Cerrone did when he retired from the sport.
Despite that, ‘The Diamond’s’ plans may have once again changed as he has recently teased a potential comeback to fighting, just months after his retirement.
This past Monday, it was announced that Dana White‘s Zuffa Boxing has signed an exclusive deal with broadcasting powerhouse, Paramount, following in the same footsteps as the UFC’s new deal.
“Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds me and Nathaniel I’d do it. Only 1 more fight I’d take,” Poirier said in a post on X.
Poirier and former UFC star Nate Diaz have had somewhat of a feud for several years now, and throughout both of their tenures in the promotion, they were linked to fight each other many times.
Following ‘The Diamond’s’ retirement earlier this year, Diaz reignited their feud by mocking Poirier’s loss, once again planting the seed for a potential future fight.
Diaz’s last fight in the UFC came in 2022 when he beat Tony Ferguson, and since then, there have been calls for him to return, with fans hopeful that one day, he and Conor McGregor will settle their rivalry with a defining trilogy fight.
Should Dustin Poirier return for a boxing fight?
Over the last few years, it has become a trend for retired UFC fighters to make their comebacks to combat sports by fighting in the boxing ring.
Throughout his time in the UFC, Poirier was considered to be a strong boxer, and his skills could likely transfer over to the boxing ring.
However, it would only make sense for him to fight a fellow former UFC fighter, with Diaz likely being the perfect dance partner considering his recent appearances in the boxing ring.
