Gervonta Davis fight was halted after huge brawl broke out in crowd in first outing after split from Floyd Mayweather

Gervonta Davis’ first fight since his split from Floyd Mayweather was filled with controversy because of a moment in the crowd.

Gervonta Davis is widely regarded as one of the best current pound-for-pound fighters in the sport of boxing donning an unbeaten career record.

Despite that, it was controversially announced recently that the lightweight champion’s next outing will come against boxing’s most controversial fighter, Jake Paul.

With the fight being heavily criticized, it was in danger of being canceled after the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission rejected the clash because of the huge weight difference between the two.

However, Most Valuable Promotions went on to announce that the location of the fight has been moved and it will now take place in Miami on November 14.

Davis’ title fight was halted after brawl broke out in crowd

Throughout a long period of his career, ‘Tank’ Davis was promoted by one of the consensus greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather, who regarded Davis as one of the futures of the sport.

During his time under the tutelage of ‘Money’ Mayweather, the Baltimore native won the lightweight title, scoring some huge wins over the likes of Mario Barrios and Rolando Romero, but he decided for his career to move forward, he would split from Mayweather.

In his first fight after splitting from Mayweather, Davis was set up to take on Hector Garcia in a title fight at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

Garcia moved up to 135lbs for the fight and in the opening rounds of their clash, it was an extremely closely contested affair.

Midway through the fight, Davis began to take over and showcased his speed advantage, landing several big shots on the Dominican fighter.

However, with just over two minutes left in the eighth round, not long after Davis landed his biggest shot of the night, the referee halted the action after a huge ruckus started in the crowd.

Usually when fights break out in the crowd, the action in the ring continues, however, because it was so close to the ring, Davis became distracted and the referee stopped it for the safety of everyone in attendance.

Not long after, the camera showed a huge line of spectators being escorted out of the arena, with it unclear who the melee was between.

With 17 seconds left of the eighth round, ‘Tank’ landed a huge left hook which almost dropped Garcia, who somehow managed to stay on his feet as he wobbled backwards.

After making his way back to his corner after surviving the round, Garcia told his corner that he couldn’t see and his corner immediately pulled him out of the fight, resulting in an eighth round stoppage win for Davis.

Gervonta Davis will retire following exhibition fight against Jake Paul

Although he is only 30 years old and potentially in the prime of his career, Davis’ heart clearly hasn’t been in boxing for several years now.

So much so, that ahead of his clash against ‘The Problem Child’, Davis has revealed that he will retire from the sport following the exhibition clash.

Before deactivating all of his social media accounts, Davis posted: “BOXING IS DEAD. I am (retiring) in 8 weeks.”
