New UFC main event faces backlash as promotion books unranked fighter vs. first-time headliner

The fans are up in arms about the UFC’s latest announcement.

The UFC Apex doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon as the premier promotion continues to roll out their non pay-per-view events from the small venue.

As of late, UFC Fight Night events at the Apex have not been notably stacked to the brim in terms of name value, with the quality of the fight cards being criticized by the fans time and time again.

The MMA world isn’t too happy with the state of UFC Vegas 111 right now after seeing its headliner.

Gabriel Bonfim vs. Randy Brown gets no love as UFC main event

On Sunday, the UFC announced that unranked welterweight Randy Brown will be taking on #14-ranked contender Gabriel Bonfim in a five-round main event on Nov. 8.

Brown and Bonfim have never headlined a UFC card before, finally getting the chance to do so at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Brown rebounded from a split decision loss to Bryan Battle with a stunning knockout of Nicolas Dalby in April.

Meanwhile, his opponent Bonfim last defeated fan-favorite Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in a controversial split decision in July.

Fans expressed their disappointment in the welterweight bout serving as the main event of UFC Vegas 111.

“Main event?” a fan questioned.

“Are we seriously doing this? No more apex and garbage main events, time to move on,” the fan added.

“How on earth is this a main event,” another fan wondered.

“What’s up with the low ranked dogs— main events recently? Onama vs Garcia too. The fights will be great but they aren’t main event worthy whatsoever,” a fan wrote on X.

“14 v unranked in a main event that’s absolutely bonkers idc if it’s a banger and it’s at the apex that should never happen,” another fan added.

How does the rest of UFC Vegas 111 look?

The UFC Vegas 111 undercard is slowly but surely being put together.

There isn’t a ton of name value on the card just yet.

Currently on a three-fight losing skid, one-time title challenger Mayra Bueno Silva looks to return to the win column against the #11-ranked women’s bantamweight contender Jacqueline Cavalcanti.

One of the more high-profile matchups on the card is a bantamweight bout between veterans Ricky Simon and Raoni Barcelos, who have both been in the rankings at one point in their careers.

Perennial contender Tecia Pennington is also set to return on the card against the #15-ranked Denise Gomes.
