Joe Rogan says Brendan Schaub got KO’d in training ‘all the time’ as he explains infamous intervention

Joe Rogan has provided new details that explain the most famous intervention in podcast history.

Former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub thought he could ‘surprise’ Cain Velasquez before the popular podcaster sent him into retirement with a brutal reality check in December 2024.

Footage of Joe Rogan delivering a brutal reality check to his friend still goes viral 11 years later.

The long-time UFC commentator has finally explained why he was so desperate to get Brendan Schaub out of MMA.

Joe Rogan explains Brendan Schaub intervention

Brendan Schaub had just been mauled by Travis Browne in a first-round KO loss at UFC 181.

It was the fourth time ‘Big Brown’ had been knocked out during his 10-5 run in professional MMA.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Joe Rogan claims his friend was getting KO’d ‘all the time’ in training.

Former interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin was Schaub’s main sparring partner for years.

So, it’s safe to assume that Rogan is telling the truth about Schaub’s history of concussions.

“For me, the hardest one was [Brendan] Schaub, because Schaub didn’t wanna quit,” Rogan said on a recent episode of his podcast.

“The thing about Brendan, people don’t know, is how many concussions he took outside of the fights.

“You see the fights, but he used to spar with Shane Carwin, man… Brendan Schaub and him used to spar all the time, and he would get knocked out all the time. He would get concussions all the time. He got a concussion days before he fought Ben Rothwell, he got a concussion days before he fought [Minotauro] Nogueira. Like, he was getting concussions all the time in the gym.

“So, I knew about all that s—, too, and I was seeing the effects. I was like, ‘You’ve got to get out now! If you don’t get out now, there’s no happy ending.’ There’s no happy ending for the guy that gets knocked out a lot. It’s terrible.”

Joe Rogan cries for Daniel Cormier

Joe Rogan’s comments on Brendan Schaub came right after he reflected on Daniel Cormier‘s career.

The two men have been friends and co-workers for years, so it was hard to watch ‘DC’ lose in the UFC.

Rogan broke down in tears as he reflected on Cormier’s KO losses against Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

“It’s real hard when you watch your friends get beat up,” he said. “Real hard. It was real hard watching Cormier when Jones beat him up. That was hard. The Stipe one was hard, especially the one where Stipe KO’d him against the cage. It’s just hard.

“Because you know them. You know them as human beings. You know what that’s going to do to them. It’s f—— devastating. It’s like a loss. It’s like you lost a family member or you lost a dog. It’s hard. I start crying.”
