Top contender suggests Charles Oliveira is ‘scared’ of his style, hesitating to accept UFC Rio fight

Charles Oliveira is currently looking for a new opponent to face at UFC Rio.

MMA’s premier promotion will return to Brazil with a stacked night of fights on October 11.

Charles Oliveira was supposed to headline the card alongside lightweight contender Rafael Fiziev.

However, an injury has left the former UFC champion without an opponent for his first fight at home since 2020.

Mateusz Gamrot is ready for UFC Rio

Mateusz Gamrot was one of several fighters who offered to fill in for Rafael Fiziev at UFC Rio.

The #8-ranked lightweight contender insists he is ready to step in and fight just 19 days from now.

As far as the Polish grappler is concerned, it is Charles Oliveira who is ‘scared’ and holding up their short-notice clash.

“I hear you’re worried about my style, even though you had a full training camp.” Gamrot tweeted on Sunday evening.

“I had none, and still I’m ready to step into the cage.

“Two weeks left to prepare– and I’m already in ATT right here.

“No excuses, let’s do this @CharlesDoBronxs @ufc.”

Charles Oliveira blasts lightweight liars

A few hours before Mateusz Gamrot’s outburst, Charles Oliveira called out his lightweight rivals.

‘Do Bronx’ claimed people publicly offering to fill in had turned down the chance to fight him at UFC Rio.

No one was named, but Renato Moicano and Benoit Saint-Denis are believed to be his intended targets.

“Everybody knows my UFC Rio fight is off,” Oliveira said in Portuguese on his Instagram Story.

“But don’t fall for the talk of these guys out there saying, ‘I’m here, I’ll go’. The UFC is calling, and they’re all saying, ‘Oh, there’s not enough time to make weight. Oh, I can’t.’ They’re posting this on the internet to get hype.

“Stop it, it’s not a good look. I saw one saying this, another saying that, but when the UFC calls, what do they say? ‘Oh, I can’t. I got bellyache. I broke a finger. I hurt my hand.’ Enough with that, it’s not a good look.”

Benoit Saint-Denis has been ruled out as a potential opponent by his manager, Guillaume Peltier.

The French fan favorite suggested he’d be ready to step in just days after beating Mauricio Ruffy at UFC Paris on September 6 – but everything changed when a short-notice fight with Oliveira became a real possibility.

It’s currently unclear if Moicano is still in the running to face Oliveira in under three weeks’ time.
