Ricky Hatton’s reaction to potential Conor McGregor comeback fight was hilarious and humble

Back in 2022, Ricky Hatton was launching his latest comeback and was in the shape of his life for an exhibition bout with Marco Antonio Barrera.

After ballooning in weight to over 214lb from a career where he regularly got under 140lb, he managed to get himself back to 159.5lb for his comeback. At the age of 44 and a decade removed from his final professional fight, the legendary British boxing star had one last bout in him.

Just days before the fight, which ended up going the distance without a winner scored, the Manchester native was asked about potentially welcoming Conor McGregor back to the ring. The Irishman had suffered a gruesome broken leg a year prior, and was eyeing a comeback that still has yet to happen.

Ricky Hatton laughed off Conor McGregor fight question

During an interview with Seconds Out, Ricky Hatton was asked if after the Barrera fight he would be interested in getting back in the ring. Conor McGregor was mentioned as a potential opponent, but the former world champion didn’t seem too keen.

The Brit noted that at the time, with McGregor having been unable to do proper cardio he was considerably bigger than usual, despite last fighting at 155lb. And when manager Paul Speak suggested on social media that they could fight, Hatton was unimpressed.

“McGregor, what is he about 15-stone?” Hatton laughed, claiming the Irishman was over 210lb. “Stick to doing my diary Paul, leave the matchmaking to me, you d—head. You seen the size of him you clown?”

When Speak joked that Hatton was once 15-stone in his own right, the boxer replied “Well I’m not now am I, so come on! Pull your socks up, son. What are you trying to do? Get me killed?”
