Charles Oliveira accuses rivals of lying about wanting to fight him in angry update about UFC Rio

Charles Oliveira is still searching for an opponent to fight at UFC Rio next month.

The former UFC lightweight champion was supposed to face Rafael Fiziev on October 11.

Several contenders offered to step in when Fiziev recently withdrew from the contest due to injury.

Mateusz Gamrot, Renato Moicano, and Benoit Saint-Denis all offered to fill in at UFC Rio.

Charles Oliveira’s UFC Rio update

On Sunday, Charles Oliveira called out the UFC stars who publicly claimed they want to fight him.

‘Do Bronx’ didn’t name anyone in particular, but he did claim fighters who offered to step in at UFC Rio turned down the chance to face him when contacted by MMA’s premier promotion.

“Everybody knows my UFC Rio fight is off,” Oliveira said in Portuguese on his Instagram Story.

“But don’t fall for the talk of these guys out there saying, ‘I’m here, I’ll go’. The UFC is calling, and they’re all saying, ‘Oh, there’s not enough time to make weight. Oh, I can’t.’ They’re posting this on the internet to get hype.

“Stop it, it’s not a good look. I saw one saying this, another saying that, but when the UFC calls, what do they say? ‘Oh, I can’t. I got bellyache. I broke a finger. I hurt my hand.’

“Enough with that, it’s not a good look.”

Benoit Saint-Denis ruled out of UFC Rio

Benoit Saint-Denis submitted Mauricio Ruffy in the UFC Paris co-main event on September 6.

In the days after his big win, the 29-year-old expressed an interest in fighting at UFC Rio.

“I will accept any opportunity the UFC is giving me to fight somebody in the top 10,” Saint-Denis said.

“As soon as possible that I get this opportunity, I’m ready to step up. I’m even looking at Fiziev and Oliveira if somebody gets injured.”

Oliveira’s pool of possible UFC Rio replacements recently shrank, as Saint-Denis was ruled out.

The lightweight contender’s manager, Guillaume Peltier, shut down speculation on his Instagram Story.

“Given the number of requests about this, I prefer to state right now, there will be no BSD vs Oliveira in October,” Peltier wrote.

“We respect Oliveira far too much to take it that way. This kind of fight needs preparation.”
