Key aspect of Dana White’s plan to substantially change boxing receives additional support despite criticism

A major hurdle currently stands in the way of Dana White’s plans for Zuffa Boxing.

We are getting closer to the UFC president becoming a major player in the boxing world.

Earlier this month, White revealed more details on his plans to put together events that will be similar to Dana White’s Contender Series as he looks to replicate this product in boxing.

This past weekend in Las Vegas may have been the first major event that he has been the promoter for, but as was shown in the reactions to the card, this didn’t reflect White’s previous comments.

In order for Zuffa Boxing and TKO to implement their plans and make some significant changes in the sport, they need a massively important act to pass.

Three new cosponsors join the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act that will be highly important in Dana White’s plans

Dana White may have helped put on two of the biggest boxing matches of all time, but it’s clear that this isn’t his focus going forward.

Eddie Hearn has provided some criticism of White’s plans, as he looks to permanently change boxing legislation.

The Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act was put forward in July with the goal of amending the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996.

If it is passed, this would allow for the creation of Unified Boxing Organizations (UBOs), which would then give a promotion the power to own their own titles, rather than adhering to governing bodies.

Some have argued that this wouldn’t be a positive change for the sport overall, and the fighters specifically by taking away some of their leverage that they have over promoters, which would lead to a decline in pay.

Despite these concerns, as reported by John S. Nash, the bill has now received cosponsor support from three more individuals.

As can be seen via GovTrack, Republicans Christopher H. Smith, Derek Schmidt and Jefferson Van Drew have now put forward their support, bringing the total to five.

Oscar De La Hoya also criticized Dana White’s boxing plans after Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

If there’s anyone in boxing who was going to be critical of Dana White’s involvement, it was always going to be his long-time rival, Oscar De La Hoya.

The legendary boxer and fellow promoter recently shared his thoughts on what went down in Las Vegas after watching his former fighter headline Allegiant Stadium.

Along with some harsh words about Canelo Alvarez, De La Hoya also lashed out at White’s plans to change boxing legislation in order to suit his new venture.

“Dana White didn’t have his best week, his t-shirt shrank smaller every minute especially when he was questioned about his attempt to amend the Muhammad Ali Act… TKO needs it to change so they can f— fighters over.”
