8-fight UFC veteran who trains with Jon Jones retires from MMA to pursue acting career

An ex-UFC heavyweight has called time on his MMA career after a 12-9 run in the sport.

Maurice Greene went 4-4 during his eight-fight run in the UFC Octagon between 2018 and 2021.

In November 2024, he picked up what proved to be the final win of his MMA career when he submitted Chase Sherman with a guillotine choke submission at Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 8.

However, Jon Jones’ teammate was knocked out in 40 seconds when he transitioned to Dirty Boxing in March, ultimately triggering his decision to retire and pursue a new career in Hollywood.

Maurice Greene retires from fighting

Maurice Greene is set to star in the Jordan Peele-produced horror movie ‘Him‘ after previously scoring several small acting roles and some work as a stuntman.

The 39-year-old fighter believes now is the time to move away from MMA and focus on acting.

“I’m done fighting. I’m done,” Greene told MMA Fighting.

“It’s been a nice 15-year-long career. It’s time to put that energy that I put into training for so many years into my kids and my family and acting.

“MMA was very good to me. I made it further than most. People talk s—.

“They can say what they want. ‘He wasn’t this, he wasn’t that’… I’m proud of my body of work.”

“It’s just like MMA. Acting is hard in itself,” Greene added. “It’s taxing on the brain, it’s taxing on the body.

“Any time I can learn something from being on set or for stunts or for acting, I’m going to do it every time.

“You do a lot. You learn a lot. I’m getting smaller roles. I’m doing stunt roles. I would assume these actors who have these bigger roles, who are higher up on the call sheet, it’s tough. You’ve got to stay locked in all the time. It’s just like MMA. It just reminds me of the same grind, but we’re using different muscles.”

Jon Jones completes retirement U-turn

Maurice Greene’s most famous teammate announced his retirement from fighting in June.

Jon Jones completed a quick U-turn after learning about the upcoming UFC White House card.

Dana White will host a show at President Donald Trump‘s official residence in June 2026.

The greatest fighter in UFC history is currently campaigning to headline the unique event.

Unfortunately, White says that Conor McGregor is the frontrunner to fill that coveted spot.

The UFC CEO insists he can’t trust Jones after he recently reneged on a deal to fight Tom Aspinall.

Only time will tell if Jones and White will be able to mend their fractured relationship in time for the once-in-a-lifetime UFC White House show.
