Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight in jeopardy after new update from athletic commission

The controversially planned fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis is at risk of being called off following a recent update.

Almost a month ago, it was shockingly announced that controversial boxer Jake Paul‘s next fight would take place against lightweight world champion, Gervonta Davis.

The announcement came just months after he scored a unanimous decision win over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who was widely regarded as Paul’s toughest opponent yet.

Not long after his fight against ‘Tank’ Davis at the State Farm Arena in Georgia was announced, ‘The Problem Child’ began receiving criticism for once again fighting someone in a lower weight class than him.

Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis in jeopardy

Of course, it isn’t the first time the 28-year-old has received criticism for his choice of opponent as his fight last November against Mike Tyson was widely frowned upon in the combat sports world.

And with that, his scheduled upcoming fight against Davis on November 14 has been branded as ‘disgusting’ because of the huge weight discrepancy between the two.

Despite his attempt to drown out the negativity surrounding the fight by agreeing to the ‘strictest drug testing possible’, after a new update from the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission, the fight is now in jeopardy.

On Tuesday, Rick Thompson, the chairman of the Georgia State Athletic and Entertainment Commission revealed that Most Valuable Promotions, the promoter of the event, had withdrawn their request for event permits and rule waivers to hold the event in Georgia.

“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been,” Thompson told USA Today Sports.

Big changes expected for Jake Paul’s next fight

At this point, it is unclear what the status of the fight between Paul and Davis is, as there was a press conference scheduled to take place from the State Farm Arena this coming Thursday.

With the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian having teased a big announcement this Wednesday, the status of the fight will likely be confirmed and a new location for the super fight will likely be announced.
