‘I just realized’… Ben Askren criticizes UFC star after finding out huge result that happened while he was ‘sleeping’

Ben Askren posted his initial reaction to a fight that happened months ago.

2025 has been an incredibly difficult year for the former UFC star and his loved ones.

Askren has continued to provide positive and emotional updates after coming out on top following a 45-day coma and a double lung transplant.

As a result of this worrying time, there are some things that the 41-year-old has missed out on due to his health struggles.

Askren has already been caught out by this once, before recently revealing that another major result was unknown to him.

Ben Askren gives his initial thoughts on the UFC 316 main event after only just finding out the result

UFC 316 and all of the fallout from that event seems so long ago at this point that some fight fans may not recall exactly what happened.

In the main event, Merab Dvalishvili defeated Sean O’Malley in a rematch to successfully defend his bantamweight title for the second time.

A disappointed O’Malley has gone back to the drawing board after some major questions were asked about what his future in the sport looks like.

The event took place on June 7, which is also the day that Ben Askren’s wife, Amy, announced on social media that her husband had been hospitalized.

It wasn’t until 10 days after that there was a positive update from Amy, as she noted that there were some signs of improvement after he was able to open his eyes.

In a post on social media, Askren hilariously revealed that he had completely missed what the result of the bantamweight title fight was until now, providing his initial assessment on the matchup over three months later.

“Wow I just realized that Merab beat Sean again while I was sleeping. Sean shoulda really took more time to work on his wrestling.”

Sean O’Malley recently reacted to reports of his UFC return

It took such a long time before Ben Askren found out about the result that the bantamweight division has significantly moved on, with Merab Dvalishvili returning next month to face Cory Sandhagen.

Sean O’Malley’s next outing after his UFC 316 setback has also recently been reported, with suggestions that a fight between him and Song Yadong is in the works for December.

‘Suga’ broke silence on his podcast to give his thoughts on the news that was circulating online.

O’Malley said that while nothing is official and he hasn’t spoken to the UFC yet, he likes the idea of the matchup.

“As far as a date goes, December, January, February, f—ing November, I’m ready to go. I’m ready to go. Call me next week, and I’ll probably say that’s too short notice. But I do like the match, it makes sense.”
