With his options at super middleweight up in the air, fans have speculated how a massive blockbuster between Terence Crawford and veteran megastar Gennady Golovkin would play out.
Drawing common opponent Canelo Alvarez over the weekend, Terence Crawford would inflict just the third loss of the Mexican’s career, landing a comfortable unanimous decision win over the defending champion.
And with the Nebraska native turning in another blockbuster victory — which catapulted him to the top of the pound-for-pound boxing rankings — Crawford has been tied to some notable fights next.
However, if pitted with former pound-for-pound pacesetter Gennady Golovkin in their respective times, Crawford may have his hands full, according to many fans.

Fans launch surprise predictions for Terence Crawford vs. Gennady Golovkin
Linked with a laundry list of opponents in his return to the ring, Crawford has remained tight-lipped on a rematch with Canelo so far.
And while links to a potential fight with David Benavidez, as well as the victor of November’s rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, Crawford has some options on the table.
However, reacting to a post by Ring Magazine regarding a prime versus prime pairing of Crawford and Golovkin, many commenters have suggested quite a surprise result.
And in a rather bold prediction, a fan speculated Golovkin would prevail against Crawford if he were still in his prime, by “brutal KO”, in fact.
Competing at welterweight in the past, Crawford has been warned that while his talents have translated at 168lbs, some pounds lighter, Golovkin is likely unbeatable at his prime at that weight.
“Nobody in recent years is beating a prime Golovkin at 160. Not a chance. He is steamrolling through these guys,” A user commented.
A third user described Golovkin as a “monster” fighter in his prime, but speculated that Crawford may prevail in a similar way as he did in his title win over Canelo, writing, “GGG was a monster. Would have walked through ‘Buds’ punches, but the amount of them and how hard he is to hit means same outcome as Canelo I think. Bud wins on points. Too skilled.”
And in a pair of completely altered opinions, one user suggested Golovkin would win with ease, commenting, “Golovkin in his prime would take Crawford’s head off.”
In the replies, another user claimed Golovkin “wouldn’t be able to hit Crawford.”
Gennady Golovkin hints at potential boxing comeback
All this talk of a hypothetical clash of Crawford and Golovkin comes on the back of a rather surprising development in the Kazakh’s illustrious career.
This week, the Olympic silver medalist and all-time middleweight great claimed he would be open to making a return to the ring for the first time since 2022.
While the record-setting former champion failed to officially confirm his retirement, Golovkin has yet to enter the ring since his trilogy decision loss to Canelo three years ago.
