Justin Gaethje had five amateur MMA fights with no striking training
Justin Gaethje came into MMA with a high-level background in wrestling.
But it wasn’t until he’d been fighting for a while that he started to learn how to strike.
In an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show from 2020, he explained: “I got hit hard in my fifth fight, almost got knocked out. I was like, ‘If I’m going to do this, I need to find a coach’.”
The podcaster replied: “Five amateur MMA fights with zero striking training?”
The warrior laughed: “Zero. I got my nickname ‘The Human Highlight Reel’ before I ever knew how to strike; that was from throwing and tossing people.”
