Canelo Alvarez shares heartfelt statement following upset title loss to Terence Crawford

On the back of his upset loss to the unbeaten Terence Crawford in their title blockbuster, Canelo Alvarez has cleared up his immediate fighting plans.

Finding himself on the receiving end of a comfortable loss to the unbeaten former undisputed welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, over the weekend, Canelo Alvarez lost his undisputed super middleweight crown.

And defeated for the first time at the weight class since his debut back in 2020, Canelo has now lost to the trio of Crawford, as well as Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

Admitting how Crawford was the better fighter in all aspects of the clash post-fight, the Jalisco star has now cleared up his future in the ring.

Canelo Alvarez releases heartfelt statement on boxing future

Suffering a unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) loss to Crawford in their twelve-round title showdown in ‘Sin City’, Canelo suffered defeat for the first time since his ill-fated return to light heavyweight three years ago.

And with his career in boxing immediately up in the air on the back of his loss to Crawford, Canelo has done his best to address what the future holds in store for him.

“I feel very proud of everything I’ve achieved so far; we always want to win, but I accept this defeat with humility and learning,” Canelo posted on X.

“I am very grateful to my team for all the sacrifices we’ve made together over all these years,” Canelo explained. “I already won because I have my family with me and millions of fans who have never stopped supporting me.

“Viva México, Cabrones.”

Terence Crawford already lined up for title return

Following his history-making undisputed title win over Mexican megastar Canelo over the weekend, unbeaten pugilist Crawford has been linked with a whole host of matchups next.

Namely, the Nebraska native has been tied to a potential showdown with former WBC super middleweight titleholder David Benavidez.

As floated by event broker Turki Alalshikh, the Saudi royal adviser questioned whether the unbeaten 30-0 light heavyweight star is still able to make the super middleweight limit.

“Can David Benavidez still make 168 pounds?” Alalshikh posted on X.
