Never far from controversy during his illustrious career, Floyd Mayweather made quite an accusation before his career swan song.
Fresh from his classy win over current undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in a victory which has aged well, Floyd Mayweather began a two-fight series with a South American star.
Dropping back to the welterweight limit where he had enjoyed prior success during his career, Mayweather was pitted against a seasoned veteran who had splattered his name across the front pages with a big win over the polarizing Adrien Broner.
And after recording a hard-fought win the first time around, in an anticipated rematch, Mayweather would prevail again, but not without some controversy post-fight.

Floyd Mayweather accused Marcos Maidana of in-ring cheating
Pitted with Argentine star Marcos Maidana in two separate twelve-round clashes, Mayweather handed the veteran two back-to-back losses.
Ultimately sending Maidana into his career retirement, Mayweather was notably hit with one of the bigger shots of his career during their second pairing — rivalling Shane Mosley’s rocking of the Michigan star back in 2010.
And in their terse back-and-forth on this day in 2014, Mayweather recorded another win over Maidana, improving to 47-0.
Hanging up his gloves at just 33 years of age, Maidana refused to continue in the ring post-Mayweather, but not before he was accused of biting the Grand Rapids puncher’s fingers and gloves in the eighth round of their clash.
“He (Marcos Maidana) bit my fingers so my fingers were numb,” Mayweather said post-fight “After the eighth round, my hand was numb and I really couldn’t use my left hand.
Reacting to the outspoken Mayweather’s claims, Maidana vehemently denied the accusations leveled against him, accusing Mayweather of deliberately clouding his own vision with his gloves.
“Maybe he thinks I’m a dog, but I never bit him,” Maidana explained. “He was rubbing my eyes with his glove. Maybe he had his glove in my mouth, but I don’t think I bit him.”
Floyd Mayweather denied ‘ducking’ Manny Pacquiao post-fight
Booking his pair of fights with Argentine slugger Maidana following more failed talks to fight Manny Pacquiao during that time, Mayweather had a staunch point to make post-fight, too.

Addressing the elusive pairing with the Filipino megastar — whom he would fight the following summer — Mayweather denied avoiding a fight with Pacquiao, despite countless claims from boxing pundits and fans.
“I’m not ducking or dodging any opponent,” Mayweather said. “If the Manny Pacquiao fight presents itself, let’s make it happen.
“I don’t know who I’ll fight in May, but I expect to fight. Manny needs to focus on the guy that’s in front of him.”
