Francis Ngannou’s UFC career forever changed in 2017.
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion from Cameroon had a quick rise to the top. After six-straight finishes in the division, Ngannou found himself in a world title fight with then champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 220.
Ngannou would unfortunately lose in his first title opportunity, which came a month after he scored one of the scariest, most thunderous knockouts in UFC history.
Of course, we’re talking about Ngannou’s monstrous uppercut KO of former world champ Alistair Overeem at UFC 218.
Ngannou brutally slept Overeem with a massive left hand and landed a hammer fist on the ground for good measure. The highlight was voted as 2017’s ‘Knockout of the Year’.
Years later, Ngannou and Overeem have crossed paths yet again.

Francis Ngannou and Alistair Overeem share wholesome photo
Despite being on the opposite end of the highlight reel, it looks like there are no hard feelings from ‘The Reem’.
On Wednesday, Overeem shared a photo of him and Ngannou in Dubai, where the two former foes had dinner.
“Just two big friendly giants,” Overeem wrote on Instagram.
“Reunited last night with @Alistairovereem in a most gentle and friendly way,” Ngannou said of meeting Overeem again.
“We had a great time and conversation at dinner,” Ngannou wrote on X.
Who will Francis Ngannou fight next in MMA?
Since his UFC departure in 2023, Ngannou has only fought in MMA once.
The former UFC champ lost boxing matches to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua before he made his PFL debut against 6’8″ then champion Renan Ferreira last October. Ngannou won by first-round TKO, winning the PFL title with ease.
There are many questions regarding Ngannou’s fighting future and who his next opponent will be in the PFL.
Former Bellator light heavyweight Vadim Nemkov is a real option, considering the fact he signed a new multi-fight deal with PFL.
Oleg Popov could be another potential opponent. Popov won the PFL heavyweight tournament last month with a win over former UFC contender Alexandr Romanov.
