Canelo Alvarez is widely regarded as one of the biggest pound-for-pound punchers in boxing.
The undisputed super middleweight champion has 39 knockouts on his highlight reel ahead of a fight with Terence Crawford on Saturday night.
However, Canelo Alvarez‘s last opponent has played down his power after going the distance with him in May.
The Mexican boxing legend and William Scull set an unwanted boxing record after attempting the fewest number of punches (445) CompuBox has recorded during a 12-round fight in its 40-year history.

Canelo Alvarez’s power played down
Canelo Alvarez landed just 56 punches on William Scull as he defended his 168lbs title over 36 minutes.
None of them connected with the power that once made Canelo worry for Amir Khan’s safety after their May 2016 fight ended in the Englishman getting viciously knocked out.
The 35-year-old fight icon hasn’t KO’d anyone in the past four years, and Scull’s comments suggest his power may be diminishing as he enters the last stage of his Hall of Fame career.
“I felt it was strong, but normal, because he is strong,” Canelo’s last opponent told Fight Hub.
“He took my hits well. When blocking, I felt his power, but it wasn’t scary.
“A legendary boxer, but not with demolishing power. You know what I mean?”
Terence Crawford’s chin issue raised
Terence Crawford will jump up two weight divisions for his super fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Fernando Vargas Jr. will put his perfect record on the line against Callum Walsh (14-0) during Saturday night’s co-main event.
The son of a former world champion who fought Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley – Fernando Vargas Sr. – recently shared his thoughts on Canelo vs. Crawford during an interview with Ring Magazine.
After previously sparring Crawford, the 17-0 prospect expressed a major chin concern ahead of the biggest fight of 2025.
“Terence Crawford, I’ve had the opportunity to spar with him, very crafty in there,” Vargas Jr. said.
“It went good, it went real good. I went in there, I believe he was getting ready for Errol Spence, and I went over there to the Apex and we sparred, and he’s really strong… He’s one of those skinny, strong guys.
“So, he knows how to definitely use his strength. I think he’ll have early success with Canelo, maybe snapping his head back. You see Canelo picking up fighters when he gets frustrated, but I think Canelo will end up putting his punches together, and I think that power will just be too much.
“I don’t think Terence Crawford would withstand Canelo’s best shot, but that’s what makes it a good fight.”
