Roy Jones Jr. lays out key reason Canelo Alvarez could lose to ‘hungry’ Terence Crawford in mega fight

Veteran megastar Roy Jones Jr. has laid out his latest prediction for this weekend’s title blockbuster between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Attempting to become a historic three-division undisputed champion, Terence Crawford makes the super middleweight walk for the first time, taking on defending kingpin Canelo Alvarez.

Tipped by many to spring an upset in his move from welterweight, Crawford faces the challenge of fighting up a series of divisions in a bid to end Canelo’s lengthy reign atop 168lbs.

If he plays his hand right, however, Crawford can do so, according to Roy Jones Jr. — who is adamant that Canelo has the ability to come unstuck in ‘Sin City’.

Roy Jones Jr. reveals how Canelo Alvarez could lose to Terence Crawford

Himself a former world champion spanning multiple divisions across a decorated career, Jones Jr. has weighed in heavily on this weekend’s clash between Canelo and Crawford.

And while remaining somewhat tight-lipped on an official prediction, the Pensacola puncher claimed there is a scenario in which Canelo loses his titles to the smaller opponent — due to one key factor.

“I think there are several wins for ‘Bud’ (Terence Crawford) to win it [the fight], but one way for Canelo (Alvarez) to lose it,” Jones Jr. said on the All The Smoke Fight podcast.

“…I like both guys, and when you have two guys of their calibre, you can’t really count either guy out,” Jones Jr. explained. “‘Bud’ is a champion, that says a lot. And on top of that, ‘Bud’ is still hungry.

“Canelo did his thing, too. But that’s the thing that bothers me. If he’s still hungry, then we’re in for a good night. But if he’s not hungry, it’s gonna be rough.”

Terence Crawford backed to recreate icon finish against Canelo Alvarez

Preparing himself for a super middleweight move, Crawford failed to impress many in his light middleweight assault against Israil Madrimov a year ago, despite capturing WBA and WBO spoils.

And prior to that, the Omaha native schooled Errol Spence Jr. in a masterful display to win the undisputed welterweight crowns.

Branded by many as one of the most dominant and skilful performances in modern boxing history, Crawford has been backed by his coach to recreate that emphatic finish when he finally locks horns with Canelo this weekend.
