Canelo Alvarez will vastly out-earn Terence Crawford after ‘Bud’ revealed his pay for Superfight

Canelo Alvarez will cement himself as one of boxing’s biggest stars with a bumper fight purse for his fight against Terence Crawford.

The undisputed Super Middleweight champion faces a tough test on September 13, as Canelo Alvarez defends his title against an impressive challenger in Terence Crawford.

“Bud” has already won undisputed titles at two weight classes, and is aiming to become the first male in history to do it in three.

However, Crawford is the clear underdog against Canelo, which is made clear when you look at the amount of money each man will make for their part in the highly anticipated bout.

Canelo Alvarez could earn up to 15 times Terence Crawford’s pay for world title fight

While Canelo is the bigger name going into the Super Middleweight title fight with Crawford, the disparity in pay is expected to be a big one.

According to SI.com, Canelo is expected to pocket up to $150 million for his involvement in the bout, which includes at least $80 million as part of his deal with Riyadh Season.

The rest of the money in that claim would be from things like ticket sales and a cut of revenue, which usually encompasses a large slice of revenue for the fighters and promoters.

Canelo signed a five-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh in February this year, handing him $400 million for five fights over the next few years.

This bumper contract is in stark contrast to Crawford, who is being paid a pittance in comparison to the Mexican great, as he revealed on a recent podcast appearance.

The two-weight undisputed champion told Ring Champs with Ak & Barak that he was only being paid $10 million to fight Canelo, something the host could not believe when they heard.

Bud added that he was doing the fight for opportunity and legacy, with the money coming as an afterthought.

Crawford said: “I mean, I got $10 million for that fight. I’m doing it for the opportunity, baby — the legacy. Legacy outweighs the money.”

If these figures are accurate, then Canelo will earn 15 times more than his opponent for their fight on September 13, a startling figure that calls into question how sensible this fight was for Crawford to take.

Terence Crawford is moving up 154lbs to his heaviest weight ever to fight Canelo Alvarez

Crawford has never fought at higher than 154 lbs, which makes the jump up to 164 lbs a daunting task for the two-weight undisputed World champion.

Back in June, the former world champion revealed he was only up to 155lbs, below the lower limit for the Super Middleweight division.

It is expected he’ll be up to 168 lbs by the time September 13 rolls around, but the toll such a weight gain can take on a boxer’s body does not bode well for his chances against Canelo.

However, Crawford looks in terrific shape a week before the fight and will be confident in his own ability to shock the world against Canelo.
