Jon Jones’ last few months have been interesting to say the least.
Retired as of June of this year, the legendary Jon Jones maintained that he is ‘not retired’ in a recent interview and that the former two-division champion is training five days a week for a chance to fight on the UFC’s White House card next June.
UFC CEO Dana White recently shot down Jones’ idea of fighting at the event, giving him ‘a billion to one’ odds that he headlines the White House, not trusting him to.
Even so, Jones is still pushing for it… but what for, exactly?
That’s what one of ‘Bones’ former rivals is asking, seeing as how he didn’t unify the heavyweight title against current undisputed champion Tom Aspinall for 600 days.

Chael Sonnen questions why Jon Jones is returning if he’s not going to fight Tom Aspinall
Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen says Jones’ situation is getting a ‘little confusing’.
Sonnen fought Jones for the light heavyweight title in 2013 and coached opposite him on ‘The Ultimate Fighter 17’.
Sonnen weighed in on Jones saying he’s not retired.
“If John says that he’s back and he was never injured, he was never ill… he just didn’t want to fight Tom Aspinall,” Sonnen said of Jones on Good Guy / Bad Guy.
“That’s the part to me that’s a little bit weird. He’s playing this as though that retirement never happened as opposed to this is a comeback,” Sonnen added.
“If you’re coming back, what are you coming back for? What is it that you’re coming back to?
“And is it just an open slate to admit anything? Anyone except that guy, that guy over there in England…
“Anybody but him,” Sonnen said of Jones not fighting Aspinall.
“Is that how we’re supposed to interpret this?” Sonnen asked.
Chael Sonnen calls ‘BS’ on Jon Jones training 5X a week
As for Jones’ training regimen, Sonnen doubts the 38-year-old Jones is training five days a week like he claims.
“BS,” Sonnen said of Jones’ training comments.
“Here’s the problem with it. Nothing has slipped out on Instagram. Nobody is claiming to work out with Jon Jones. No one’s claiming they saw Jon Jones work out.”
Sonnen continued.
“Most importantly, nobody’s saying that they’re the trainer. He’s got a mythical trainer at a gym yet to be identified working out with bodies who have never been named…
“I just think that’s a lot. I mean, if he came out here to Oregon and we saw him in the gym, there’d be a line and people would want autographs and it would be a really big deal,” said Sonnen.
