Ahead of his highly anticipated clash against Dmitry Bivol, Canelo Alvarez made a detrimental mistake that cost him the fight.

This coming Saturday, the biggest boxing fight in recent years takes place when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford clash for the super middleweight title.

Canelo made huge mistake ahead of fight against Dmitry Bivol

Both Canelo and ‘Bud’ Crawford are widely regarded as two of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, and Crawford still dons an impressive undefeated record.

Canelo on the other hand has suffered two losses previously, and his first came against Floyd Mayweather, who schooled the young Mexican when they fought in 2013.

His second loss, though, came more recently in his career when he clashed against Dmitry Bivol in 2022, in an attempt to win the WBA light heavyweight title.

Despite Bivol being the bigger fighter, Canelo was a huge favorite going into the fight because of his body of work.

However, coming into his fight against Bivol, Canelo made a huge change to his diet which ultimately proved pivotal come fight night.

After testing positive for clenbuterol in 2018, Canelo was suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The Mexican implored that the banned substance came from eating tainted meat in Mexico.

And following that, ahead of the Bivol fight, Canelo changed to a vegan diet after watching ‘The Game Changers’ documentary.

The change was criticized after he went on to lose his fight against Bivol, and shortly after, he went back to eating red meat.

Canelo and Crawford offered lucrative bonuses ahead of fight

Not only is Canelo vs Crawford a huge fight because of the title implications but also because it is the inaugural event hosted by TKO boxing.

And with Turki Alalshikh attempting to raise the stakes for the fight, he has offered both fighters a lucrative knockout bonus.

Canelo’s most recent knockout win came over four years ago when he stopped Caleb Plant in the 11th round of their super middleweight fight after brawling prior to the fight in a press conference.
