‘Nearly gave me a heart attack’… Tom Aspinall shares relieved reaction to teammate’s stunning UFC Paris KO

UFC Paris wasn’t just a successful night for the home fighters on Saturday night.

September 6 at the Accor Arena saw only two of the 13 bouts require the judges to be called into action.

Tom Aspinall, who came face-to-face with Ciryl Gane on fight week, was in attendance in the French capital to cheer on two of his close teammates.

It ended up being a highly successful trip for the undisputed heavyweight champion and his team as they secured two big wins and finishes.

Aspinall’s reaction to Ante Delija’s UFC debut saw a lot of emotion come out of the Brit after his nerves were high ahead of the fights.

Tom Aspinall shares his concerned reaction to Modestas Bukauskas’ devastating UFC Paris win

In a video on his YouTube channel, Tom Aspinall gave fans a closer look at what he got up to at UFC Paris on Saturday night and his reactions to the fights.

His emotional response to Ante Delija’s impressive debut was posted by the UFC on social media, but the Croatian wasn’t the only fighter that the heavyweight champion was there to cheer on.

Modestas Bukauskas, who recently chimed in on Aspinall’s next fight, earned the biggest win of his UFC career on the main card when he stopped Paul Craig right at the end of the first round.

While ‘The Baltic Gladiator’ produced a devastating elbow to get the finish, Aspinall was still concerned for his teammate at several moments in the fight.

Bukauskas grappled with Craig for a substantial part of the opening round, which Aspinall was clearly worried about this playing into his opponent’s specialist skillset.

The champion was trying to advise his training partner to stay clear of this before reacting to the fight being waved off after the bell had sounded for the end of the round.

“Nice. He stopped him at the end of the first round. Modestas nearly gave me a heart attack but we got it. We got it. Go on Modestas.”

Tom Aspinall praised Paul Craig after he announced his retirement at UFC Paris

In his post-fight interview after a big loss, Paul Craig announced his retirement from MMA.

Tom Aspinall had said in his video that he was a bit conflicted about the matchup before it got underway because while Modestas Bukauskas is his current teammate, he’s also trained with the Scotsman in the past.

When Craig took his gloves off to call time on his career, Aspinall paid respect to the UFC veteran.

“Congratulations Paul on a great career. Paul’s an awesome guy. A true pioneer of British martial arts. Paul’s done more in his career than most people even dream of so congratulations to Paul on a great career.”
