‘Terrible fraud check’… One minute KO at UFC Paris leaves fans stunned as top prospect suffers first octagon defeat

UFC Paris prospect Andreas Gustafsson is the latest to be slammed with the social media burden of ‘fraud check’.

The welterweight contender earned his spot in the promotion on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, before winning his debut in a short-notice UFC 316 showdown. However, he took a major step up against Rinat Fakhretdinov at the Accor Arena and was brutally stopped within a minute.

Viewer reception to the fight, which saw him take on a man with double his fight experience, was not good for the Swede. Fakhretdinov is now riding a 20-fight unbeaten streak including six UFC wins and a draw.

Andreas Gustafsson viciously knocked out within a round by Rinat Fakhretdinov

In one of the most exciting prelim fights on paper this evening, Andreas Gustafsson welcomed the toughest challenge of his career to date against Rinat Fakhretdinov. The more experienced but younger Russian hasn’t lost in over a decade, and has been on an impressive run of results.

The only loss Fakhretdinov has faced in that time was a grappling match with the iconic Craig Jones after almost surviving a 12-minute round. And he showed his pedigree as he very quickly wobbled Gustafsson with a big shot in the opening seconds.

From there, the Swede couldn’t get his feet back underneath him and the bout ended in disaster as he was dropped and ultimately had to succumb to his first stoppage defeat.

Fans claim Andreas Gustafsson is latest UFC ‘fraud check’

While Gustafsson made a massive step up in just his second octagon outing, fans were quick to dive all over his performance. Given that he is a hyped up fighter with the promotion, more toxic users have been keen to see him fall almost from his debut.

As a result, his name was quickly given the ‘fraud check’ tag by a number of X users, with one writing: “See, this is a fraud check. And a big one.” Another added: The literal definition of a fraud check. He barely got touched and instantly crumbled.”

However, some made the very reasonable argument against the idea. “How is it a fraud check when the guy who’s just beat him is 22-1?” One asked.
