‘Detrimental to his health’… Mike Tyson issues stunned first reaction to Floyd Mayweather agreeing to fight him

Even Mike Tyson is a little bit shocked by the fact that he is booked to fight Floyd Mayweather.

On Thursday, the legendary boxers shocked the world by announcing they will face off in an exhibition bout next year.

At the peak of his powers, Mike Tyson weighed 220lbs and was the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Floyd Mayweather never tipped the scales at more than 151 lbs during his Hall of Fame boxing career.

So, it has come as a surprise that he has agreed to box someone so much bigger than himself.

Mike Tyson’s shocked reaction to Floyd Mayweather fight

In a press release, Mike Tyson admitted he was skeptical when first approached about the fight.

The 59-year-old thought there was no way Floyd Mayweather would ever get into the ring with him.

Now it’s happening, Tyson has warned his next opponent about the dangerous situation he’s putting himself in.

He said: “When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but Floyd said yes.

“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable—and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.

“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”

Mike Tyson’s last fight

Mike Tyson retired from professional boxing after being stopped by Kevin McBride in 2005.

Almost two decades later, ‘Iron Mike’ returned to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Tyson looked like a shadow of his former self as he slumped to a decision defeat in November 2024.

Still, the boxing icon reportedly made $20 million before splashing $13 million of it on a mansion.

Another monster payday will surely be up for grabs when he takes on Floyd Mayweather in 2026.
