UFC featherweight contender makes bold claim about Alexander Volkanovski as he reveals targeted title fight date

Alexander Volkanovski’s potential next opponent has made a bold claim about his game ahead of a potential clash for the title.

A few weeks ago at UFC 319, featherweight contenders Lerone Murphy and Aaron Pico clashed in a number one contender fight in the co-main event.

‘The Miracle’ Murphy went on to score undoubtedly the Knockout of the Year, putting Pico out cold with a spinning elbow in the first round.

And immediately after the fight, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski declared that Murphy will now likely be his next title contender.

Murphy makes bold claim regarding Volkanovski’s game ahead of potential title clash

Throughout his impressive UFC tenure, Murphy has been largely criticised by the fanbase for not scoring enough finishes and being too passive as a fighter.

Despite that, the Brit believes that following his win over Pico a few weeks ago, it sparked a new mentality in him and he wants to ‘kill’ again.

And with that, ahead of a potential title fight against the Australian, Murphy has claimed that ‘The Great’ Volkanovski has holes in his game that he thinks he can expose.

“I’m a technician, I watch a lot of tape on guys so I understand the flaws and I’m already seeing holes in Volkanovski’s game and I’m gonna exploit them,” Murphy told the Believe You Me Podcast.

Murphy went on to claim that the fight could potentially take place in December as Volkanovski wants to return to the Octagon at the end of the year.

“December, Volk wants to fight in December so I think it’s gonna be in Las Vegas in December, I’m waiting for a call any time now, next few weeks to get it set in stone and then I’ll start my training camp,” Murphy continued.

Could Lerone Murphy dethrone Volkanovski?

Throughout his impressive win streak, Murphy has shown that he can beat many different styles, but no fighters have as good a fight IQ as Volkanovski.

Despite that, Murphy will hold a big size advantage over the champion and will likely look to utilise that with his game plan which suits him fighting at range.

However, only time will tell whether the featherweight division will once again have a new champion atop of it and fans continue to wait for an official announcement of the fight.
