Ex-champ Miesha Tate reveals where she’s at with UFC retirement: ‘Wouldn’t fight more than…’

UFC star Miesha Tate is on the fence regarding a second retirement.

The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion was one of the first women to fight in the Octagon back in 2013, alongside her two-time rival and then-champion Ronda Rousey.

Miesha Tate was never able to get revenge on Rousey, but ‘Cupcake’ did come out on top against the woman to dethrone her when she submitted Holly Holm to win the world title at UFC 196 in 2016.

Nearly a decade removed from her title win and 2-3 in her last five fights, Tate has contemplated retirement once again.

Tate has made the decision to retire before, doing so after back-to-back losses to Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington in 2016. Tate came back to win her UFC return five years later.

Miesha Tate confirms she has one fight left (if at all)

It doesn’t look like Tate will be fighting into her forties.

Coming off a decision loss against Yana Santos in her last fight, the 39-year-old was asked if she was ‘done’ with UFC.

“I’m not officially done,” Tate said on the Jaxxon Podcast.

“I still have a fight on my contract. One fight. I wouldn’t fight more than one more time.

“I’m not looking to re-sign,” Tate said of her UFC contract.

“I think just one more, if that, but I haven’t decided for sure.

“I might be leaning towards not [fighting again],” Tate added.

Tate has a 7-7 record across 14 UFC fights. The women’s MMA pioneer and 30-fight veteran had her first-ever MMA fight back in 2006.

Miesha Tate rules out boxing move after UFC

There are a number of UFC stars that have crossed over into the sport of boxing after their runs in the big show were over. One example is former middleweight champ Luke Rockhold, who just got knocked out by Darren Till at Misfits Boxing 22.

Tate won’t be following in their footsteps.

“You’d have to ask [the UFC to do a boxing match], but I’m not,” Tate said, when asked if she’d ever box.

“Boxing, for real? Like, I’m not gonna go do that.”

Tate says she could see herself doing some grappling competitions post-retirement, potentially under the UFC BJJ banner.
