It has been nearly three years since Nate Diaz last competed inside the Octagon.
Chael Sonnen recently claimed that he was confident about Diaz coming back to the UFC after speaking with him.
The huge star has competed in two boxing bouts since departing the promotion, though it looks at this time like 2025 might be the first year since 2020 that he hasn’t been active.
Diaz may be keeping himself busy with other side quests, but there is still a sizable demand to see him back doing what he does best.
The 40-year-old recently provided the latest update on what is next for him.

Nate Diaz says he’s interested in competing in MMA, boxing and jiu-jitsu to stay active
Nate Diaz was in attendance for Dirty Boxing’s third event on Friday night where he briefly spoke to the media in Miami, Florida.
The fan favorite was clear on the idea that if it was up to him, he’d be much more active than he has been in recent years.
He told MMA Junkie’s Danny Segura that there simply isn’t an opponent that makes sense for him right now.
“Nobody’s free so there ain’t nobody to fight. I want to fight three times a year but everyone’s f—— locked down so it’s a matter of time. I’m trying to fight ASAP and that’s what’s happening.”
Diaz has complained in the past about no one in MMA really catching his eye and getting him motivated to start training again for a return.
He maintained that this is still the case, though he did suggest that competing in both boxing and jiu-jitsu could be other routes that he explores if a UFC comeback isn’t on the cards.
“At the moment, I don’t have anything to see until it pops up in my grill… Both, jiu-jitsu also. I’m gonna do all the combat sports as much as possible until the end of time.”

Nate Diaz confirms his interest in fighting at the White House in 2026
Nate Diaz making a return to the UFC started to become a more regular talking point after the promotion announced their plans to host an event at the White House in 2026.
Dana White hasn’t given any update on who could feature on the card due to it still being quite far in the future, though stars like Diaz would make a lot of sense.
The former UFC lightweight title challenger was asked about this in the MMA Junkie interview on Friday night, to which he replied that this particular event is something that he’s targeting.
“100%. That’s the thing I’m most looking forward to.”
