UFC Shanghai translator flamed by fans after awkward mistakes during broadcast… ‘She was that bad?’

The UFC returned to China for the first time since 2019 on Saturday, with a Fight Night event headlined by Johnny Walker and Zhang Mingyang.

It was a rough night in the office for Zhang Mingyang who was headlining a UFC event in his home country for the first time, taking on Johnny Walker.

In the UFC Shanghai main event, Walker pulled off the upset win, handing Mingyang his first UFC loss when he was smashed with a leg kick and subsequent ground-and-pound in round two.

It was also a night to forget for the UFC translator, who was flamed online by the UFC fanbase for her continuous mishaps throughout the event.

Fans react to UFC translator

This was quite a unique event for UFC fans in the United States, as with it being in Shanghai, it took place in the early hours of the morning.

And matters weren’t made any easy for the fans in the States as the translator translating Octagon interviews for the live crowd and those watching at home, had a night to forget.

Following Sergei Pavlovich’s decision win against Waldo Cortes-Acosta, there were actually two translators in the Octagon, which confused matters even further.

“Did the UFC just replace the Chinese translator mid card? She was that bad?” another fan reacted to the continuous mishaps on the broadcast.

“Could you have found a worse translator?” another fan asked the promotion.

“This UFC translator is horrible LMAO,” another fan said.

Herb Dean also under fire for UFC Shanghai performance

Fortunately for the translator, she wasn’t the only one under fire for her performance in Shanghai on Saturday.

Veteran referee Herb Dean has once again been put on blast by the UFC fans for his officiating of the co-main event between Aljamain Sterling and Brian Ortega.

During the fight, Sterling landed a punch on Ortega which landed with his knuckles, and even though Dean audibly confirmed that it was a legal punch, he still called a stop to the action and gave Ortega time to recover.
