Conor McGregor’s BKFC announces debut for history-making former world champion and Olympic gold medalist boxer

BKFC have some big fights coming up in the next few months, with another one now confirmed.

The promotion held a press conference yesterday ahead of BKFC 82 on October 4, where some of the biggest names on the roster were in attendance.

Former UFC champion Frankie Edgar spoke about his decision to sign with the promotion and come out of retirement.

BKFC’s president also suggested that Conor McGregor is currently preparing to enter the ring against either Mike Perry or Jeremy Stephens.

One of their other recent marquee signings, who will bring some high boxing pedigree into the ring, has now had his debut made official.

James DeGale set to make his BKFC debut on September 27 in Manchester

Before retiring in 2019, James DeGale accomplished some remarkable things in his career.

The Brit won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008 before going on to become a two-time world champion in his professional career.

DeGale held the IBF super-middleweight title on two occasions, with his first title win in 2015 making him the first British boxer to win both a world title and an Olympic gold medal.

He last fought in February of 2019, losing a unanimous decision to Chris Eubank Jr in London before signing to BKFC earlier this year.

DeGale is now set to make his debut at BKFC 81 in Manchester, England on September 27, where he will face Australia’s Matt Floyd in the main event.

The 36-year-old Floyd will also be making his BKFC debut following a career in boxing where he went 15-2.

BKFC president scolded a former UFC champion for his criticism of the sport

In 2023, BKFC secured a big signing in the form of former UFC champion, Luke Rockhold.

Rockhold faced Mike Perry in the main event of BKFC 41, and after waving the fight off due to an injury in the second round, he has been critical of the sport as a whole.

David Feldman recently responded to the fighter’s comments in an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, stating that the American wasn’t necessarily the right fit for BKFC.

“This sport just wasn’t for him either because, he opted to quit. You don’t opt to get knocked out in a fight, but you do opt to quit. And he did opt to quit, and it just wasn’t for him.”

We will find out on September 27 whether this is the case for James DeGale or not.
